Volume Lashes: Your Guide to Voluminous Lash Extensions

So – you want those beautiful lashes, but you’ve grown tired of applying all of those false sets every day? We understand. If that’s the case, you’re probably here because you’re interested in getting a beautiful pair of lash extensions, but are not sure what to expect. While falsies may seem like your all-in-one problem solver, there are some important things to know before making the plunge.

In this guide we plan on walking you through the basics of getting a volume lash extension and what to expect before, during, and after your lash upgrade.

What are volume lashes?

Volume lashes are just one type of lash extension that you can get when wanting to step up your eye look. This level of lash extensions primarily focus on giving your eyelashes a fuller look and thickening the appearance of your lashes by seamlessly adding false lashes to your eyelid.

As the name suggests, when getting a set of volume lashes, the concentration of the number of lashes on your lash line is the primary focus over the overall length of your lashes.

An overview of lash extensions

False lashes take you a step beyond constant mascara use or even the subtle lash lift. Lash extensions are a longer lasting, customizable version of the daily false lashes you apply again and again. These sets allow you to express yourself in various different settings! Anything from a natural look to an exaggerated, head turning look is possible with extensions.

Comparing volume lashes to other extensions

When it comes to the types of lashes offered, there are a few different options based on the look you are trying to achieve. Primarily, there are three options when it comes to lash extensions - classic, hybrid, and volume lashes. Classic eyelash extensions offer a more natural look, providing a 1:1 ratio of natural lashes to falsies.

Next up: hybrid extensions. Hybrid lashes offer a well rounded but slightly enhanced look for your eyes, bringing an emphasis to the eye without making it the focal point of attention. Lastly, there are volume lash extensions. Volume lashes are here to bring you that dramatic look. There are a few different types of volume lashes, including: American Volume Lashes and the Russian Volume Lashes. If you want your eyes to be the center of attention, volume lashes are the move.

It is important to note that volume lashes are not the same as cluster lashes. While both may provide a dramatic effect, the application process, results, and how they affect your lashes are completely different.

How long should your volume lashes last?

The longevity of your eyelashes are generally dependent on your hair growth cycles, as well as how the lashes are maintained. On average, you can expect your lashes to last around four to six weeks; however, you will know when it’s time to replace your lashes when your sets become patchy and uneven.

What to expect from a volume lash appointment

If you feel like getting a volume lash set is your next stop on your road to self expression, we are thrilled to hear that. Below we have compiled a few tips and tricks that can set you and your new, luscious lashes up for success!

What to do ahead of your session

Preparing for your lash appointment is similar to preparing for most other beauty appointments. Before coming to your session, make sure you have an idea of the look you’re going for, as well as a clean, makeup free face.

Sometimes things can get busy and you fit in a lash appointment in the middle of a hectic day, that’s not an issue. If you’re ever in a situation where you are wearing makeup or false lashes before your appointment, allow yourself enough time to get to the appointment early and remove as much as possible before your session.

The process of getting eyelash extensions

Getting lashes takes time – especially if this is your first set or a brand new set. If you would like to plan appropriately, try to allow for around two hours for your lash technician to work their magic. During those two hours, your technician will go over the intended style for your session and then answer any remaining questions or concerns that you may have. Once all questions have been addressed, you will be gently laid on your back where you will rest for the duration of the appointment.

To start, your bottom lashes will be held down with a gentle adhesive strip. Restraining your lower lashes ensures that there’s no possibility for your bottom lashes to get glued to your new set that is being applied – that would not be good!

Once your lashes are clean, dry, and prepared, your technician will use a medical grade adhesive and apply it to each false lash. With skill and precision, your technician will use tweezers to apply each individual lash in its rightful place to form the density and shape you requested. When the process has been completed, the technician will seal your lashes and brush them out to ensure proper application and shape.

Best ways to take care of your volume lashes

You just spent a few hours, and money, trying to get the perfect lash, so it would make sense to try and keep them for as long as possible. When it comes to the best ways to take care of your lashes, thankfully it’s a pretty simple process.

Your main takeaways should be: avoid as much sweat and moisture exposure as possible for a minimum of 24 hours after your session. In addition, avoid waterproof products or products that are oil based as it can interfere with your lash adhesive. Allowing your lashes to rest, as well as cleaning them daily with a gentle lash cleanser will ensure you have the best chance for success.
